Yeojin “Jean” Lee first studied acupuncture and meditation in Korea, following her Bachelors in Chemistry. Under the guidance of one of the country’s most respected and sought after practitioners, her eyes were opened to its possibilities. She realized that acupuncture could help many people without the side effects that inevitably come with western medicine and, that inner health is the foundation of external beauty and confidence.
After moving to Los Angeles, she obtained her masters in acupuncture at Dongguk University and interned at the University of Southern California (USC) before beginning her practice. Jean has a gift for working gently and intimately with her patients, and has a keen sense of each patient’s individual needs. She understands the unique concerns that each person has, and that everyone has their own imbalances that are in need of care and attention. Jean focuses on the root causes of every symptom, and works diligently to help her patients see external results from an internal focus.
How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture is a process that naturally improves health and wellbeing. By inserting thin, sterile and disposable needles into the surface of the skin, it is possible to repair muscles, tendons, and ligaments as well as treating nerve pain, improving digestion, regulating breathing problems, adjusting menstrual and reproductive imbalances, and reducing mental and physical problems— among many other uses.
Western medicine acknowledges that there are electrical currents that flow through the body. These electrical currents are evidenced by readings on an electrocardiogram or when the electrical activity of nerves is measured. Acupuncture is simply a way to influence the flow of these electrical currents.
In Chinese medical theory, these electrical pathways, also known as meridians, are highways of communication between different parts of the body. When there is a blockage in the flow of energy—be it from stress, physical or emotional trauma and/or injury—the meridians become congested and we feel tension, pain or other symptoms. By removing the obstacles that impede the flow of function, a proper acupuncture treatment guides the body to repair itself.
